Information
US 1 KNX – Overvoltage Protection for KNX Systems
Art. No.: 9070848
The Theben US 1 KNX is a compact overvoltage arrester in the form of a KNX bus terminal. It protects KNX and LUXORliving systems from surges caused by lightning strikes or electrical interference. This component replaces the standard bus terminal and is suitable for protecting individual bus couplers or entire KNX distributions. With simple installation and a wide temperature range, it is ideal for both new installations and retrofits.
Application
The US 1 KNX is used as fine surge protection in KNX or LUXORliving systems. It protects sensitive bus components in environments with surges exceeding 2 kV. It is installed directly in place of the bus terminal or via the rail connector for compatible couplers.
Functions
- Surge protection for KNX and LUXORliving systems
- Replaces the standard KNX bus terminal
- Protects bus couplers against surges > 2 kV
- Suitable for single components or complete KNX distributions
- Compatible with N-type and REG bus couplers
Technical Data
- Nominal voltage (UN): 21–31 V DC
- Nominal current (IN): 6 A
- Discharge current (8/20 µs): 5 kA
- Protection level (usp):
- At 100 V/µs: < 350 V
- At 1 kV/µs: < 500 V
- Insulation resistance (Risol): > 104 MΩ
- Capacitance: 1 pF
- Connections:
- BCU socket: 1 mm Ø with gold spring contacts
- Bus wires: Ø 0.8 mm, 200 mm length
- Earth lead: 0.75 mm², 200 mm length
- Operating temperature: –40 °C to +80 °C
Installation
The US 1 KNX is installed in place of the conventional KNX bus terminal. For protecting an entire distribution board, all incoming and outgoing bus lines should be equipped with this arrester. For N-type or REG couplers, connect via the rail connector.
Important Notes
- Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician according to local regulations.
- Check the unit for visible damage before installation. Do not install if damaged.
- Ensure correct wiring: red and black leads must not be reversed.
- The green/yellow earth wire must be grounded via the shortest route to protective earth.
- Note: This device protects only the bus side. A separate overvoltage protector (e.g. DEHNguard) is required for the power supply.
- Opening or modifying the unit voids the warranty and is strictly prohibited.
